Stevie Gerrard Said "NO"

Of all the tales from all our trips to Wales
This is the greatest I know :
When Fate seemed to want Liverpool to fail,
But Stevie Gerrard said “NO”.

We were all over the place, Carra fell on his face
As he slipped & put through his own net;
God seemed to say : “it’s West Ham’s day”
But Stevie said “D’you wanna bet ?”

Then it just got worse as Pepe Reina fumbled
And Ashton put the Hammers two up.
“Crouch offside? Are we cursed?” we grumbled
But Stevie was still up for this Cup.

Our number 8, fighting for Cup number seven,
Set up Lord Cisse to pull one back.
But the Lord of Heaven favoured the Cockney eleven
Until Stevie popped up in attack.

Benayoun & Etherington had great games too
Reo-Coker stoked their busy midfield.
But frustrating the boys in Claret and Blue
Was Momo, so so kool, Stevie’s shield.

I wanted to puke after Konchesky’s fluke -
It just wouldn’t be our day.
But when He saw Stevie lining up that shot
Even God got out of the way !

Twenty three goals from midfield this season,
And this was the greatest of all !
It's a team game, but goals like that are the reason
They watch footy in Heaven at all.

So for extra time, did God switch sides ?
‘Cos he couldn’t stop Stevie, our champ.
Whilst half the players were droppin like flies
To cripple Gerrard it takes more than cramp.

As Reina tipped that header onto the post
Did God let us have a bit of luck -
Letting the rebound fall to West Ham’s most
Hopelessly injured arl crock ?

Spot-kicks are no sweat with Pepe in the net,
He doesn’t need any help from Fate.
And even God in the net, wouldn’t have bet
Against a penno from our number 8.

Our Captain Fantastic had made it a classic
And he finally lifted that Cup.
That Cardiff day, God had cheered the other way,
But Stevie G just wouldn’t give up !

He said "NO" in Turkey to the mighty Milan,
He said "No way, José Mourinho"
And when God seemed to be a West Ham fan,
Stevie Gerrard said "NO !"
