PARRY: NO DEAL AGREED WITH CHELSEA

Liverpool have today slammed a report in the Mail on Sunday claiming that chief executive Rick Parry has agreed a deal with Chelsea for the sale of Steven Gerrard in the summer.

The newspaper's story suggests Parry met with his opposite number at Stamford Bridge Peter Kenyon last week to "agree a deal in principle" for the sale of the Reds' skipper at the end of this season. But Parry has insisted no such meeting took place and that both he and manager Rafael Benitez are determined to do all they keen to keep Gerrard at Anfield.

Parry told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Contrary to a story in today's Mail on Sunday I did not meet with Peter Kenyon nor did I agree a deal for Steven Gerrard.

"Both Rafa Benitez and myself have made it clear to Steven that we want him to stay and that we see his future at Anfield.

"We are used to the speculation surrounding Stevie but what is disappointing is that a single telephone call from the newspaper to check what are fairly basic facts would have completely demolished the story."

Liverpool Football Club will be consulting their lawyers on Monday morning about the Mail on Sunday's story.
