Happy Eid

Eid-Al-Adha

Muslims believe that God revealed in a dream to Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Isma’il. Ibrahim and Isma’il set off to Mina for the sacrifice. As they went, the devil attempted to persuade Ibrahim to disobey God and not to sacrifice his beloved son. But Ibrahim stayed true to God, and drove the devil away. As Ibrahim prepared to sacrifice his son, God stopped him and gave him a sheep to sacrifice instead. The story is also a part of the other Abrahamic religions

The first day is the primary holiday, on which men, women, and children are expected to dress in their finest clothing and perform prayer (Salah) in a large congregation. Muslims who can afford to do so sacrifice domestic animals, usually sheep, as a symbol of Ibrahim's sacrifice; this sacrifice is called "Qurbani." The meat is distributed amongst their neighbors, relatives, and the poor and hungry. The charitable instincts of the Muslim community are demonstrated during Eid ul-Adha by the concerted effort to see that no impoverished Muslim is left without sacrificial food during this day. Coming immediately after the Day of Arafat (when Muhammad pronounced the final seal on the religion of Islam), Eid ul-Adha gives concrete realization to what the Muslim community ethic means in practice.

Ed, I fail to find any proof to your statement. I accept that people have twisted stories (or tales of things past) to benefit themselves, but this has also happened about things that don't apply to God or faith, and yet the original facts of history were not untrue, just the eventual story that was twisted.

As for you prophecy that people realised that there is no God and religion dies shows that you're really not aware that the vast majority of civilization believes in God. It seems that it's really just wishful thing on you part in regards to your faith, "Atheism" (which, as far as I'm concerned, personally takes more faith to believe than anything else I've come across).

Finally, as for making the world a free and happy place - are you refering to those regimes like the old Soviet or the Nazis of 1940s Germany/Italy where they were trying to kill god and religion? I don't think you would find the world either "free" or "happy" if they had succeded, but hey if another of those regimes comes to power again, I'm sure you'd be the first to emigrate there!

Any who, Dan. Just curious, I know that the Christian faith believe that this event was a precursor, or an image if you will, for Jesus sacrificing himself in place of others (in the way that the sheep was sacrificed for Abraham's son). Is there any other meaning like this in the Muslim faith?...I'm not all that familiar with the Qu'ran.
